Having missed out of two consecutive Africa Cup of Nations, the ex-international believes the country will not tumble out of the qualifiers enroute Cameroon 2019.
Mutiu Adepoju believes Nigeria have learnt their lessons after missing back-to-back African Cup of Nations tournaments in Equitorial Guinea and Gabon.
According to the former Super Eagles midfielder, missing two consecutive African championships is painful, but the country must do all it takes to avoid missing out of Cameroon 2019.
“I’m sure we have learnt our lessons already, missing two Afcon tournaments is not good for Nigeria but nevertheless, we just have to take it up from where we left and forge ahead,” Adepoju told Goal.
“It happened to some other countries like Egypt who did not qualify since 2010, but they played in the final of the 2017 Afcon.
“So it is one of those things that happen in life, we just need to look ahead and try as much as possible to avoid the same mistakes that made us miss both competitions consecutively.
“If we had qualified, probably we would have played in the final. Going forward, we just have to do our homework and stop thinking about other countries.”
The Super Eagles will battle South Africa, Libya and Seychelles in Group E to stand a chance to return the continental showpiece for the first time since 2013, when they were crowned champions in South Africa.
