At ERCC, other known as Vision Assembly, Adokwe called for the sustenance of unity in the country to build a legacy for future generation.
Adokwe made the call at a thanksgiving service held in his honour to mark his 63rd birthday at the Evangelical Reformed Church of Christ (ERCC) Vision Assembly, Nyanya, Abuja.
The Senator was 63 on February 15.
According to him, there are many challenges that threaten to tear the country apart in many ways, but that “God continues to keep us as one family regardless of these challenges”.
“The mercy of God and His gift to this country is much more than the things that keep us apart.
“We have a lot to do, particularly the leadership; we need to be fair and just to Nigerians.
“And also, we need to be fair and just in the resources God gave us to see what we can do to take the country to another level. We must remain eternally grateful to God,” he said.
The lawmaker said that at 63, God had been very gracious, faithful and merciful to him.
“It has been 63 years of goodness. I appreciate God for bringing me this far. It is quite unique, not many people celebrate 63.
“The greatest gift God gave to me on Feb. 15 which was my birthday was the birth of my granddaughter,” he said.
In a sermon titled “The Importance of Thanksgiving”, Pastor in charge of the church, Reverend Joseph Iwala, said that God honoured people who showed gratitude.
He said that if Christians honoured God they would witness abundance in all areas of life and they would experience multiplication in their finances.
“People that show gratitude to God will never experience backwardness,” he said.
In a remark, Director-General, National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Ishaq Kawu, described the celebrator as “a wonderful man, a patriot who had tremendous passion for his country”.
“He is a conscientious individual with a good sense of justice. He has the ability to build friendship. This is what endeared him to me,” Kawu said.
He urged the youth to imbibe moral values that would help to shape the society.“
The Presiding Pastor, Mr. Joseph Iwala, commended Adokwe for holding the Thanksgiving and explained that people should continue to show appreciation for what God has done for them.
He explained that Thanksgiving was not a personal thing but a ceremony that should always hold in a Church to give public appreciation to God.
“Honour God. Those who do not honour God will not be honoured by God.
“Those God has blessed must come out publicly to thank God,” he explained.
The pastor said that God would always want a public acknowledgement for achievements.
“Anytime you thank God, you are adding fertiliser to your achievements to make greater achievements,” he advised,
He advised: “Join the group of people who serve God and the group that grumbles.”
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that dignitaries that attended the event include the Managing Director of News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Mr Bayo Onanuga and Director-General Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr Osita Okechukwu.
Others are the Director-General of Nigeria Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Is’haq Modibbo-Kawu, as well as the Director-General of NTA, Malam Yakubu Muhammad, who was represented by Director Administration and Finance, Mr Philip Ofoegbu.
