A House of Representatives member, Oladipupo Adebutu, has accused the Ogun State government of allegedly frustrating a water project being undertaken by him as one of his constituency projects.
Adebutu, representing Ikenne/ Sagamu/Remo Noth Federal Constituency in the lower chamber of the National Assembly, said the project was located at Lugoke community in Ward Four, Iperu-Remo, Ikenne Local Government Area of the state.
Adebutu disclosed this on Friday while speaking to journalists.
The lawmaker had accused the state Commissioner for Finance, Mr Wale Osinowo, of being the brain behind the disruption of the alleged constituency project.
He alleged that the commissioner, who is an indigene of the town, led suspected political thugs to stop workers at the project site.
Adebutu noted that the incident was a further manifestation of the excesses and overbearing attitude of the All Progressives Congress-led administration in the state.
The lawmaker who is the chairman of the House Committee on Rural Development, said the project was part of the goodies from the Federal Government aimed at providing rural dwellers with clean, potable and safe water.
He said, “Unfortunately, what we are seeing now is that the state government is denying its own people the opportunity to get safe water for reasons other than good sense. It is really sad and quite unfortunate.”
But in a swift reaction, Osinowo denied the allegation levelled against him by Adebutu.
He explained that it was local government officials or officials from the water corporation who stormed the site.
He said, “How can I invade the site? Am I a politician? My mother lives in the area where the project is sited and I only went there to visit my mother. Is there a crime in that?
“When I got there, there was disorderliness and I tried to settle the matter. What I saw was that the person supervising the project was very rude to the government officials that came.”
