Health Benefits Of Raw Honey

Honey has been valued as a natural sweetener long before sugar became widely available, honey naturally contains nutrients and enzymes that have a variety of health benefits and medical uses. Raw honey is honey (nectar from flowers) that is pure, unheated, unpasteurized and unprocessed.

This is perhaps one of the most important characteristics and health benefits of the final product, as it preserves all the natural vitamins, enzymes, phytonutrients and other nutritional elements. True raw honey is quite different from processed, commercial honey for these main reasons.

Antibacterial and antifungal properties
Raw honey can kill unwanted bacteria and fungus. It naturally contains hydrogen peroxide, an antiseptic. The effectiveness of honey as an antibacterial or antifungal depends on the type of honey.

Honey Improves Your Scalp
Honey diluted with a bit of warm water was shown to significantly improve seborrheic dermatitis, which is a scalp condition that causes dandruff and itching.

Help for digestive issues
Honey is sometimes used to treat digestive issues such as diarrhea, though there isn’t much research to show that it works.

However, it’s proven to be effective as a treatment for  a common cause of peptic ulcers. (Peptic ulcers occur in the stomach or digestive system.) Taking 1-2 teaspoons on an empty stomach is said to soothe pain and help with the healing process.

Heal wounds
Honey is also used in medical settings to treat wounds because it’s an effective germ killer. Researchers believe this is because it has additional antibacterial properties besides the natural hydrogen peroxide. Honey can boost healing time and reduce infections in wounds.

prevent cancer and heart disease
Honey contains flavonoids, antioxidants which help reduce the risk of some cancers and heart disease.
Helps improve skin
It’s anti-bacterial qualities are particularly useful for the skin and when used with the other ingredients, honey can be moisturizing and nourishing.
Helps regulate blood sugar
Even though honey contains simple sugars, it is not the same as white sugar or artificial sweeteners, it’s exact combination of fructose and glucose actually helps the body regulate blood sugar levels.
