NCC: Nigerians spend $6.6b on telecom services

Prof. Umar  Garba Danbatta, the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) says Nigerian telecom consumers spent $6.6 billion  in 2016.
Danbatta disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during the  launch of the NCC Year of Consumer.
He said that in 2015, the Nigerian telecom consumers spent 5.6 billion dollars, adding that consumers’ contribution had made the success stories possible in the sector.

Gombe dry season farmers cry out over hippos menace

Dry season farmers in Malleri village of Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe state have raised concern over the menace of rampaging hippopotami in the area.
Some of the farmers who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Malleri village on Monday, said that the rampaging animals have been terrorizing people and destroying their crops.
According to one of the farmers, Malam Isa Suleiman, the dreaded animals, usually come out early in the morning and night to destroy crops and threaten farmers.
He said that he spent over N300, 000 in his rice farm and that the animals had destroyed the crop.

Gbajabiamila, represented by Mr Sherif Balogun, Sole Administrator, Surulere Local Government Area, said the provision of the streetlights was redemption of his electoral promise to always connect with his constituents and deliver dividends of democracy.

The greenback on Monday crashed against the Naira, as the Nigerian currency gained 5 points at the parallel market against the Dollar.
The Naira traded at N460 to a dollar, after speculators had forced it 3 points down amid liquidity boost on Friday.
However, the Naira weakened against the Pound Sterling but maintained its Euro rate as it traded at N560 and N480, respectively.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has declared three days of prayers for the quick recovery and early return of President Muhammadu Buhari to Nigeria.
A statement by NAN’s President, Comrade Chinonso Obasi, on Monday in Abuja, said that the three-day prayer would commence on Wednesday.

FUT Minna expels 44 students

FUT Minna: 44 students expelled
Forty-four students from various faculties were on Friday asked to withdraw from the Federal University of Technology, Minna over poor academic performance and examination malpractice.
The university’s spokesperson, Mrs Lydian Ledgu, said in Minna that the affected students have been ordered to vacate the campus.
